The war in Ukraine from February 24, 2022, poses a huge challenge for the entire Ukrainian society. Schools and hospitals, kindergartens and housing are often targeted as a result of massive attacks on civilians and civilian facilities. After the hostilities, children and adolescents experience war trauma, which has a huge impact on their development and further life. Due to the extreme sensitivity of children and their addiction to adults, children are harmed and vulnerable above all else. The war in Ukraine in 2022 caused internal and external migrations among Ukrainians. European countries faced the challenge of accepting over 5 million refugees from Ukraine, including only Poland, about 3 million people. Therefore, one of the main tasks is to develop effective instruments of public policies, both in Ukraine and in other countries, aimed at creating a safe environment for children and young people and appropriate living conditions. The main goal of the special issue of the journal “War in Ukraine 2022: problems of children and youth, threats, help” is an interdisciplinary description and explanation of the situation of children and adolescents during the war in Ukraine, identification of the basic problems of children and adolescents among internal and external refugees, determination of psychosocial factors determining the war trauma in children and adolescents, analysis and definition of public policy instruments in Poland and Ukraine, in other countries for the purpose of helping refugees.
