Copyright and Licensing

Youth in Central and Eastern Europe respects the intellectual property rights of authors and supports the broad dissemination of scholarly research in accordance with the principles of Diamond Open Access and Open Science.

This policy defines the principles governing copyright ownership, publishing licenses and the reuse of articles published in the journal.

1. Copyright Ownership

Authors retain full copyright to their published works.

Submission of a manuscript to the journal does not constitute a transfer of copyright to the Publisher. Authors remain the copyright holders before and after publication.

2. Publishing License

Upon acceptance of a manuscript for publication, authors grant the Publisher a non-exclusive, royalty-free and worldwide license to:

  • publish the article;
  • assign a Digital Object Identifier (DOI);
  • distribute the published work in electronic form;
  • archive the article;
  • include the publication in indexing services, repositories and scholarly databases;
  • preserve the permanent scholarly record of the publication.

Granting this publishing license does not affect the authors' ownership of copyright or their right to reuse their own work in accordance with the applicable license.

3. Creative Commons License

All articles are published under the following license:

Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0)

This license permits users to:

  • read published articles;
  • download publications;
  • copy and store articles;
  • print published materials;
  • share and redistribute articles.

Users are required to:

  • provide appropriate credit to the author and the journal;
  • preserve the integrity of the original work;
  • use the material only for non-commercial purposes;
  • refrain from modifying the work or creating derivative works without permission from the copyright holder.

4. Author Rights

Authors retain full rights to reuse and disseminate their published work. In particular, authors may:

  • share the published Version of Record;
  • deposit the article in institutional and disciplinary repositories;
  • make the publication available through ORCID, ResearchGate and Academia.edu;
  • use the publication for teaching and educational purposes;
  • include the article in doctoral dissertations, books and edited volumes;
  • present the published research at scientific conferences.

The Editorial Office kindly requests that authors always include the complete bibliographic citation together with the DOI linking to the published version on the journal website.

5. Reader Rights

Readers are entitled to:

  • free and unrestricted access to all published articles;
  • download publications;
  • print articles for personal use;
  • cite published research;
  • share links to published articles;
  • use published content for research and educational purposes in accordance with the terms of the applicable Creative Commons license.

Commercial use of published content or the creation of derivative works requires permission consistent with the terms of the applicable license.

6. Third-Party Materials

Authors are solely responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce or use copyrighted materials owned by third parties. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • photographs;
  • illustrations;
  • maps;
  • figures and charts;
  • tables;
  • archival materials;
  • any other copyrighted content.

All required permissions must be obtained before submitting the manuscript for publication. Authors bear full responsibility for any infringement of third-party copyright.

7. Copyright Infringement

Any allegation concerning copyright infringement will be investigated by the Editorial Office in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Where copyright infringement is confirmed, the Editorial Office may:

  • request an explanation from the authors;
  • require appropriate corrections;
  • remove infringing materials;
  • publish a Correction or Erratum;
  • retract the published article;
  • notify the relevant research institutions or funding bodies.

All investigations are conducted confidentially, impartially and in accordance with internationally recognized standards of publication ethics.

8. Changes to the Licensing Policy

The Editorial Office reserves the right to update this Copyright and Licensing Policy whenever necessary in response to changes in legislation, publishing standards or the requirements of international indexing databases.

Such updates shall not affect the licensing conditions of articles published before the revised policy enters into force. Previously published articles remain subject to the license applicable on the date of publication.

9. Use of the Journal Name and Visual Identity

The title Youth in Central and Eastern Europe, the journal logo, visual identity, website design and other graphic elements are not covered by the Creative Commons license and may not be copied, reproduced, modified or used without the prior written permission of the Publisher.

This restriction applies in particular to promotional materials, trademarks, journal branding and all elements of the journal's visual identity.

10. Compliance with International Standards

This Copyright and Licensing Policy has been developed in accordance with the recommendations and principles of:

  • Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE);
  • Creative Commons;
  • Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI);
  • Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).

The Editorial Team is committed to protecting authors' intellectual property rights, promoting responsible scholarly publishing and supporting the widest possible dissemination of scientific knowledge in accordance with internationally recognized best publishing practices.

This Copyright and Licensing Policy has been developed in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the principles of Creative Commons, the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI), and the standards of the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
