Youth in Central and Eastern Europe respects the privacy of authors, reviewers, Editorial Team members and readers. Personal data are processed in accordance with the applicable legal regulations, in particular Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council (General Data Protection Regulation – GDPR).

This Privacy Statement explains how personal data are collected, processed, stored and protected in connection with the editorial and publishing activities of the journal.

1. Data Controller

The controller of personal data processed in connection with the activities of Youth in Central and Eastern Europe is:

University of the National Education Commission, Kraków (UKEN)

The Data Controller is responsible for ensuring that personal data are processed lawfully and securely by implementing appropriate organizational and technical measures.

2. Categories of Personal Data

Depending on an individual's role in the publishing process, the Editorial Office may process the following personal data:

  • full name;
  • institutional affiliation;
  • e-mail address;
  • ORCID iD;
  • country of residence;
  • academic and professional information;
  • information submitted during the editorial and peer-review process.

Only personal data necessary for the proper operation of the editorial, peer-review and publishing processes are collected and processed.

3. Purpose of Data Processing

Personal data are processed exclusively for the purpose of:

  • managing the editorial process;
  • administering the peer-review process;
  • communicating with authors, reviewers and Editorial Team members;
  • publishing scholarly articles;
  • indexing published content in bibliographic databases;
  • maintaining the journal archive;
  • fulfilling the Publisher's legal obligations.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

Personal data are processed in accordance with Article 6(1) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), in particular on the basis of:

  • the data subject's consent;
  • the performance of a contract or steps taken prior to entering into a contract;
  • compliance with a legal obligation;
  • the legitimate interests of the Data Controller related to scholarly publishing.

5. Disclosure of Personal Data

Personal data may be disclosed only to entities involved in the editorial and publishing process to the extent necessary for the performance of their responsibilities.

This includes, in particular:

  • members of the Editorial Team;
  • reviewers;
  • DOI registration agencies (Crossref);
  • international indexing and abstracting services;
  • scholarly repositories;
  • IT service providers supporting the journal's publishing platform.

The Editorial Office does not sell personal data, disclose them for marketing purposes or use them for profiling users.

6. Data Retention

Personal data are retained only for as long as necessary to complete the editorial and publishing process, comply with applicable legal obligations and preserve the scholarly record.

Personal data relating to published articles, authors and publication metadata may be retained indefinitely as part of the permanent scientific record and the journal archive.

7. Rights of Data Subjects

Individuals whose personal data are processed by the Editorial Office are entitled to exercise the rights provided by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to:

  • access their personal data;
  • request the rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • request the restriction of data processing;
  • request the erasure of personal data where permitted by applicable law;
  • object to the processing of personal data;
  • receive their personal data in a portable format;
  • lodge a complaint with the competent data protection supervisory authority.

8. Data Security

The Editorial Office implements appropriate organizational and technical measures to protect personal data against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, loss or destruction.

The editorial and publishing workflow is managed through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, which provides secure management of personal data relating to authors, reviewers and members of the Editorial Team.

The journal website may use cookies to ensure the proper functioning of the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, improve website security, analyze website traffic and enhance the overall user experience.
