Author guidelines
Key Technical Requirements
- Language of publication: Polish or English.
- Manuscript length: depends on the type of submission (Research Article, Review Article, Research Report, Commentary, Book Review, or Editorial). Detailed word count requirements for each manuscript type are available in the "Types of Manuscripts" section.
- File format: Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx).
- Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt.
- Line spacing: 1.5.
- Margins: 2.5 cm (1 inch) on all sides.
- Text alignment: Justified.
- Page numbering: Consecutive throughout the manuscript.
- Reference style: APA Style (7th edition).
- Metadata: The title, abstract and keywords must be provided in both Polish and English, regardless of the language of the full text.
- ORCID iD: Strongly recommended for all authors.
- Anonymisation: Before submission, all information identifying the author(s) must be removed from the manuscript to ensure a double-blind peer-review process.
- Journal template: Authors are encouraged to prepare their manuscripts using the current YCEE manuscript template available on the journal website.
These Author Guidelines describe the requirements for preparing and submitting manuscripts to Youth in Central and Eastern Europe (YCEE). Compliance with these guidelines facilitates the editorial and peer-review process and contributes to the efficient evaluation of submitted manuscripts.
1. Journal Scope
Youth in Central and Eastern Europe publishes original scholarly articles addressing issues related to youth and contemporary social change in Central and Eastern Europe. The journal adopts an interdisciplinary approach and welcomes contributions from sociology, education, psychology, political science, communication and media studies, public health, social policy and other disciplines focusing on youth-related research.
2. Types of Manuscripts
The Editorial Office welcomes the following categories of manuscripts:
- Original Research Articles;
- Review Articles;
- Research Reports;
- Commentaries;
- Book Reviews;
- Editorials (by invitation).
3. Language Requirements
Manuscripts may be submitted in either Polish or English.
Regardless of the language of the full text, every submission must include the following metadata in both Polish and English:
- title;
- abstract;
- keywords.
Authors are responsible for the linguistic accuracy of both language versions. For manuscripts submitted in English, professional language editing prior to submission is strongly recommended.
4. Preparing the Manuscript
Manuscripts should be prepared in an editable Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx) using the current journal template provided by the Editorial Office.
The submission should include:
- an anonymized manuscript prepared for double-blind peer review;
- a separate title page containing author information;
- tables and figures (where applicable);
- supplementary materials (where applicable).
Manuscripts should comply with the journal's editorial requirements and publication ethics standards.
5. Manuscript Structure
Authors are encouraged to organize their manuscripts using the following structure:
- Title (Polish and English);
- Author names and affiliations;
- ORCID iDs (where available);
- Abstract (Polish and English);
- Keywords (Polish and English);
- Introduction;
- Literature Review;
- Materials and Methods;
- Results;
- Discussion;
- Conclusions;
- Funding Statement (where applicable);
- Conflict of Interest Statement;
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) Statement (where applicable);
- Data Availability Statement (where applicable);
- References prepared in accordance with APA Style (7th edition).
6. Tables and Figures
Tables, figures, charts and photographs should complement the text and present research findings clearly and effectively. Each table and figure must be numbered consecutively, provided with a concise title and cited in the main text.
Where figures, tables or other graphical materials are reproduced or adapted from previously published sources, authors are responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions and providing appropriate acknowledgements. The Editorial Office reserves the right to reject materials that infringe copyright.
7. References
All manuscripts must be prepared in accordance with the APA Publication Manual (7th edition). In-text citations must correspond exactly to the references listed at the end of the manuscript.
Authors should:
- ensure complete consistency between in-text citations and the reference list;
- provide DOI numbers whenever available;
- verify the completeness and accuracy of all references before submission.

8. Author Information
The title page should include the following information for each author:
- full name;
- institutional affiliation;
- country;
- e-mail address of the corresponding author;
- ORCID iD (where available).
The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the Editorial Office and for keeping all co-authors informed throughout the editorial and publication process.
9. Funding
Authors are required to disclose all sources of financial support related to the research presented in the manuscript.
If no external funding was received, authors should include the following statement:
Funding: This research received no external funding.
Additional information regarding funding disclosure is provided in the relevant editorial policies available on the journal website.
10. Conflict of Interest
Authors must disclose any financial, professional or personal relationships that could influence the interpretation of the research findings or compromise the impartiality of the publication.
If no conflict of interest exists, authors should include the following statement:
Conflict of Interest: The authors declare no conflict of interest.
Detailed requirements regarding the identification and disclosure of conflicts of interest are described in the journal's Conflict of Interest Policy.
11. Research Ethics
Authors are expected to conduct and report research in accordance with internationally recognised principles of research integrity and publication ethics. Research involving human participants, personal data or other ethically sensitive materials should comply with applicable legal and institutional requirements.
Where applicable, manuscripts should include information regarding approval obtained from an appropriate ethics committee and informed consent from participants. Additional requirements are described in the journal's Publication Ethics and Research Integrity policy.
12. Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Artificial intelligence (AI) tools may be used only in accordance with the journal's editorial policies and recognised standards of research integrity. AI systems cannot be listed as authors and cannot assume responsibility for the content of a manuscript.
Any use of AI tools during the preparation of a manuscript must be disclosed in an appropriate statement. Detailed guidance is provided in the journal's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy.
13. Research Data Availability
The Editorial Office encourages authors to make research data, supplementary materials and research instruments available whenever possible and appropriate. Data should be deposited in recognised repositories whenever this is compatible with legal, ethical and confidentiality requirements.
Where applicable, manuscripts should include a Data Availability Statement. Detailed requirements are described in the journal's Research Data Policy.
14. After Acceptance
After acceptance, manuscripts enter the production stage, which includes copyediting, typesetting and author proofreading.
The corresponding author will receive page proofs for final approval. At this stage, only minor editorial corrections and the correction of typographical errors are permitted. Following approval, the article will be published online and assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI).
